The Sunbirds

"Bloggers know everything, darling."
Saturday morning. I turned on my laptop, sipped my coffee and went through my inbox and an email dropped in from Dirty Boots London about this band, The Sunbirds. Now, if you know Dirty Boots, you know they put out good stuff. Dirty Boots is a live music club night based in the London area and have had Turbo Fruits, She Is Danger, The Sunshine Underground and Them:Youth on their live nights and parties, causing chaos on the streets of London.
So, my expectations were already on "high" when I pressed the play button on the Sunbirds' Soundcloud.

And actually, the Sunbirds got me listening. They do sweet, surf/psychadelic rock, with lots of jangly guitars, very much like the 60's bands, The Stones, The Birds, Beach Boys. It's feel good music, the kind of stuff that make even the arse-y-iest of twats in too tight blazers and jeans loosen up abit and smile. Also kinda reminds me of Girls (the San Francisco one, not the Seattle one), maybe a bit of The Coral.

The Sunbirds are like the summer that never happened in Manchester.
I love it.

Their upcoming ep, tentalively entitled Run To The Sun may be released on Dirty Boots Records, methinks. These demos are surprisingly polished and sleekly produced.

Death Metal Disco Scene

Death Metal Disco Scene first came into our radar a couple of months back with that impossibly catchy glamrock-electropop track off their first single, 21. To say that track is perfect would be an understatement:
It's the song the DJ pays at a party that makes the kids jump up, its the song you play at a friend's house that makes them listen up and go, "Who is this?"
It's the track that we've kept playing non-stop when it first came out.

Death Metal Disco Scene labels their sound as doom disco or dischord, electronic music with rock and roll spirit, fuck you punk attitude, gorgeous breakdowns that grab you by the collar, you might as well pogo to it. The brainchild of the multi-talented and lyrically-gifted David James Billing and formed together with Scorch Shephered, DMDS was formed out of frustration after David's short career as a pop songwriter for Kylie Minogue.

We've been quietly following their progress since their single came out, waiting for them to unleash news of a possible album release. And they've got back to us this weekend with news of a second forthcoming single, The Dead, another lush, this time slightly mellower track with a somewhat gritty vibe. The Dead is given an upbeat, electro remix by The Hooks - the remix starts off quite awkwardly but rolls into a sleek banger.

Crookers

WHY have Crookers turned dubstep?
This collab with Kelis could have been very good. This is just not good enough. And very unlike Crookers. I hope they wont be playing this on 12th December in Leeds. Stick to your fidget, please!

Anyone interested to get the Tomb Crew remix of this track can get it at their blog.
